We have benefited in GW NSW from 3 particularly generous bequests – from Joan Bielski, Tempe Mann and Margery Murray. Joan’s bequest funds the 3 year scholarship for a needy mature student who missed out as a school leaver, Tempe’s funds our travelling scholarship for a post-graduate student and the Margery Murray fund pays for our administrative assistant’s salary and the office rent, luxuries which neither AGW nor any of the State associations shares. Margery, born in 1899, was an early member of AFUW and her mother, Sophia Holland BA 1894, one of the earliest women graduates of the University of Sydney. A term of the bequest was that there be an annual lecture commemorating Sophia. This has taken place since 1998. Jane Baker, Chairman, Education Trust
