It is always a pleasure to hear from our Tempe Mann scholars when they return from their trips overseas to international host institutions where they further the research for their theses. On 17 April 2026 we heard from Lily Pham who travelled to Dalhousie University and to Nova Scotia in Canada to study Pharmacists’ potential roles in perinatal depression and anxiety screening in primary care as part of her PhD research that she is undertaking through Sydney university. Perinatal Depression (PND) affects one in five Australian mothers and poor maternal mental health directly correlates with poor infant health outcomes. Australian clinical practice guidelines recommend routine perinatal care, including PND screening but services are not universally accessible, leaving one in five perinatal women who are not screened for PND.
