Canberra Branch
Canberra Branch welcomes all members of Graduate Women NSW who live in the Canberra region.
The only eligibility requirement is that they are members of Graduate Women NSW.
Canberra Branch meets informally for breakfast monthly, arranges occasional social events and through its members retains links with similarly aligned women’s groups in Canberra. Our fundraising to support GW NSW (Canberra) endowed undergraduate prizes is achieved through theatre parties held several times each year.
Undergraduate Endowments
The Canberra Branch has endowed GW NSW (Canberra) perpetual prizes to support undergraduate studies at the Australian National University across several faculties, including:
- Graduate Women NSW (Canberra) Prize in Chemistry to recognise outstanding academic achievement and to encourage female identifying students enrolled in a degree of Bachelor in the ANU College of Science.
- Graduate Women NSW (Canberra Branch) Prize in Computing and Engineering to encourage students who are enrolled in a degree of Bachelor in the ANU College of Engineering, Computing and Cybernetics or the ANU College of Science who identify as a woman and recognise outstanding academic achievement.
- Mavis Prater Prize for Women in Mathematics to encourage female students enrolled in a degree of Bachelor in the ANU College of Science to continue on with their studies in Mathematics. The funding provided by GW NSW (Canberra) is matched by the Mathematical Sciences Institute, ANU.
- Graduate Women NSW (Canberra) Prize in Climate Science to encourage female identifying students enrolled in a degree of Bachelor in the ANU College of Science.
- Graduate Women NSW (Canberra) Prize in Asian Studies recognising the student awarded first class honours when awarded the degree of Bachelor with Honours in the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific.
Canberra Branch is working with ANU to increase the value of the endowments that support these prizes.
